Links for safer personal care products

My personal web page at Beautycounter:  www.beautycounter.com/debireese

Please note that as of April 2022, I do not receive any monetary perks for providing any links to items on this list except for the Beautycounter items as I am a consultant for BC.  Otherwise, use the links then figure out where you can purchase the items possibly for less. Please note that I entirely support using safer products and attempt to help you find those which work best, too, however these are only suggestions.

Deodorant Recommendations: Notice it's "deodorant" and not "antiperspirant". Being safer means not using things to restrict our body from functioning how we're designed to function and that means sweaty armpits. Yes, for the first month after switching to just a deodorant, you WILL sweat a LOT. However, once your body gets used to the sweat glands being open, it will not sweat as much. Deodorant is to stop the stench, not the sweat.

1.  Beautycounter has their own deodorant, The Clean Deo, which I LOVE. It is refillable and lasts a looooooong time! It comes in 3 scents: coconut, rose, and lavender. My personal favorite is the rose smell as it's very light and to me, works best with my strange body chemistry to last the day. BC uses essential oils to incorporate scent into the product, so no toxic ingredients here!

2.  Native Deodorant was my personal favorite.  I liked that it contains probiotics and so it changed the microbiome in the skin around the armpit!  However, it has been sold to a larger corporation and they have added "fragrance" to their ingredient list. I cannot completely support this brand due to the word "fragrance" being immediately given a 9 out of 10 in the EWG's safety rating as companies do not have to disclose what is in their fragrance. However, if you can find the older Native deodorant? It is still my favorite of all time as the probiotics really did keep the stink down to zero.

3.  Look up deodorants for yourself on the  Environmental Working Group's skin deep app or website and see which ones rank highest! However, you may not like how they work (remember, they will allow you to still break-through sweat) as there’s no antiperspirant in any of them! Sweating is GOOD for our body... just think, over the counter antiperspirants clog up your pores to stop the sweat. Hmmmmm... how is THAT good for our body??

Toothpaste Recommendations: (many have xylitol as a safer substitute sweetener, but please note that it is toxic for dogs and will harm their kidneys... so, not even a taste of your toothpaste, please!!)

1.  David's toothpaste brand and Boka brand. Wow. I do love these! These toothpastes have nano-hydroxyapatite in them that has been proven through science to remineralize teeth! Since I DO NOT use fluoride in my toothpastes, I feel the need to use something more to help keep my teeth healthy and cavity free. This mineral is it! Feel free to click on the link and read about it for yourself. I must admit to switching from Boka to David's as David's has the EWG verified seal and that means a LOT to me.

2. Hyperbiotics Activated Charcoal Probiotic Toothpaste is now my favorite!  Since I struggle greatly with my gut microbiome, I figured that if I start in my mouth, that should help... right?  It has no fluoride, which is a bandwagon I've been on for the past few years.  Yes, as a child and adult I've struggled with cavities, but no longer!  Possibly due to the healthier eating, and possibly due to no fluoride in my mucous membranes!  Whichever, I'm sticking with no fluoride as it seems unnecessary to me.

3.  My Magic Mud Toothpaste is my "oldie but goodie"... just can't beat the taste via essential oils!

4.  Jason's SeaFresh Toothpaste is my "yum, I love how that feels and tastes" toothpaste.  No charcoal mess with this one, just a nice minty fresh and clean feeling.

5.  Again, you can look up toothpastes in the EWG's Skin Deep app or website to find toothpastes that are either EWG certified or meet your criteria for safer living.

Cosmetic and Skin Care Recommendations: I must admit to being VERY biased in this section due to my absolute LOVE for Beautycounter. I have been a consultant for just over 5 years. Though it is not my main source of income, I do make a commission on anything purchased through my personal website.

1. Sunscreen - being a blonde with very pale skin, making sure I am protected against skin cancer is a primary concern. I am also concerned with the environment (please read blog dated 6 April 2022 for more information on that) and do not want the sunscreen that washes off my skin to potentially harm the reefs or sea life.  So, I use the Beautycounter sunscreens! Not only are they safer for my skin and body as they use non-nano zinc oxide as the main ingredient, but it is not shown to harm the reefs nor
sealife like chemical ingredients in most store bought brands. However, due to the essential oils used for that yummy smell, the EWG rating is a 2 out of 10 for safety (closest to zero is safest). So, if you want the safest sunscreens with the EWG seal, please head to the link provided.
